Community Impact Projects

Care Closets

The Junior League of Monroe currently has 22 total Care Closets in area schools. These closets help discreetly provide hygiene products to students. Our members work directly with area schools to meet needs such as deodorant, undergarments, bath products, and more. These items are stored at each school so that every child can have easy access to any needed items.
 
Our Care Closets are now part of the United Way Partner Program. By investing in Partner Programs, United Way of Northeast Louisiana works to improve the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our area. Our partnership is just one of the many United Way partnerships engaged in vital work within our community, all made possible thanks to the United Way campaign and the support of dedicated donors.

JLM Care Closet Committee is currently hosting a Hygiene Drive and would appreciate any help restocking our Care Closets. Listed below are the products most needed, but all items are welcome!

Currently, our MOST needed items:

  • tampons
  • feminine wipes
  • deodorant
  • period underwear
  • socks (all sizes; both sexes)
  • undershirts ( junior high students)
  • regular underwear (all sizes; both sexes)

You can drop off these donations at the Junior League on Monroe, located at 2811 Cameron St, Monroe, LA 71201, Tuesday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

If you would like to make a monetary donation of ANY amount to the JLM Care Closets, you may drop it off or mail it to the Junior League of Monroe, 2811 Cameron St, Monroe, LA 71201.

Cinderella Project

The Junior League of Monroe hosted the 15th annual Cinderella Project, sponsored by Aetna! Over 93 high school juniors and seniors were treated like queens as they chose their dream prom dresses!

Classroom Mini-Grants

The Junior League of Monroe is proud to offer Classroom Mini-Grants for our local teachers, librarians, students, and schools. The grant funding has provided local educators with ample opportunities, materials, and supplies for classroom projects for many years. Teachers may be awarded up to $500 from the program.

The grants will be awarded in the Fall of this school year to ensure implementation during the current 2026-2027 school year. We encourage applications from all areas of PreK-12 education, including general education, special education, critical thinking, healthy living, music, physical education, art, STEM, and any other specialized areas that work directly with the children in our community.

Uniform Voucher Program (Adopt-a-Student)

As a part of The Junior League of Monroe’s commitment to helping children and families in need, we are proud to offer the Uniform Voucher Program. This program helps ensure that students in Ouachita Parish and Monroe City School Systems have the basic necessities they need to learn and grow. Administrators and teachers from area schools may apply to receive items for students, such as uniform shirts, uniform shorts/pants, socks, undergarments, and shoes, for students in need.

This program is funded by Active, Provisional, and Sustaining Members of the Junior League of Monroe alongside the United Way Partner Program. By investing in Partner Programs, United Way of Northeast Louisiana works to improve the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our area. Our partnership is just one of the many United Way partnerships engaged in vital work within our community, all made possible thanks to the United Way campaign and the support of dedicated donors.
